Grading, Transcripts, and AP/IB Score Evaluation During COVID-19

If you are a high school senior, we know you are facing unprecedented challenges as a result of COVID-19. We know that many of you are concerned because your school has been closed, classes modified, exams canceled, or grading structures changed, in addition to what would normally be an exciting time turned into something difficult. Portland State University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions is open and committed to providing guidance for concerned students and families regarding their status with Portland State.

We want you to know that we will work with you to ensure that your ability to attend PSU is not impacted by these changes.

Here are some updates to our admissions process:

Four Years Free and WUE Eligibility

Portland State University has adjusted the GPA requirement for Four Years Free and the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) from 3.20 to a cumulative, unweighted 3.08 for high school seniors admitted for fall term 2020.

Incomplete Grades

Admission decisions for fall 2020 enrollees will not be affected due to changes in grading policies at your school. Incomplete grades will not affect your admission decision, so long as you graduate from high school with a standard diploma.

Unofficial Transcripts

You may submit unofficial transcripts to receive an admission decision at this time. We understand that it may be difficult to reach your counselor for an official transcript. If necessary, you can email copies of unofficial transcripts to your admission counselor to start the review process. You are still required to submit final official transcripts prior to enrolling at PSU.

Advanced Placement (AP)

If you are taking the AP exams at home this term, Portland State University will award credit based on your score in the same way we would have if you were at school and taking the longer exam. Review our AP policy to determine the amount of credit you may receive from your AP exam scores.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

The IB Organization will not hold exams at the end of this year, but will provide equivalent scores to colleges and universities based on an evaluation of your work in your IB courses thus far. Read their FAQ page to learn more about how diplomas will be awarded. We will continue to award credit for these scores according to our published IB exam credit policy based on the scores provided by IB.
